Exhaustion Sets In

So my schedule is kind of nuts... Monday-Wednesday, I have my internship all day. Thursday I babysit all day. Monday and Tuesday nights I have class from 6:45-9:15. Thursdays I have class from 4:00-9:15. And then there are Wednesdays...

Every other Wednesday I babysit for a family to allow the parents to have a date night. But on the other Wednesday nights, I have class. From 4:00-9:15.

And what I'm discovering (after my second of these such weeks with Wednesday classes) is that I am 100% exhausted on those nights. I just got home from class, and I am ready to crash. All I have the energy to do is watch bad TV (yes, the game was already over by the time I got home) and read other people's blogs and sometimes (though not often) update my own.

So now I get into bed by 9:30, watch The Daily Show online, and go to bed by 10 or 10:15.

Kinda kills my social life. But... on the other hand, it's an investment to make sure I can make it through tomorrow.

Gratitude today for:

- Diet Coke
- Josh Beckett
- The sleep I'm about to get

Friends are Cool, Sickness Notsomuch

So I've had a rough few days... After the endless sticks on Wednesday, I started feeling a little under the weather. I woke up Thursday with a sore throat and a general aching feeling (before anyone asks, yes, I did get my flu shot, so I was particularly pissed about this turn of events).

I called in sick to my internship, but had to rally at 1pm to go to an interview for an internship for next year. Not wanting to jinx it either way, I won't say much about the interview except that I would love to work there next year, and the women who interviewed me gave me absolutely no indication if they liked me or not. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.

Anyway, I made it home and felt even more sick than before. I ended up taking my temperature at about 9:30 last night, and it was at least 101 (I say "at least" because my electronic thermometer's battery died mid-temperature taking). I continued to pump myself full of fluids while watching the middle of season 7 of The West Wing, and finally went to sleep around 10:30.

This morning I woke up knowing that I had to go to my internship because I hadn't seen my kids in 2 weeks, and I couldn't make it three. Luckily my fever had broken overnight, and I was feeling much less achey. On my way there I realized that I had sent letters home last week to parents of 3 kids asking them to meet with me - two on Thursday (yes, that would be yesterday - the day I didn't make it into my internship) and one on Friday. I arrived and found the mother already waiting for me. Thank goodness she was kind and understanding.

Anyway, I made it through my day at my internship, sent letters home to apologize and reschedule the meetings I had missed yesterday, and came home and tried to take a nap before dinner. Unfortunately, my inability to breathe meant an inability to sleep. Boo!

Tonight, I had a dinner date with two dear friends from camp who I hadn't seen in ages. I could have cancelled, because I still felt like crap, but I didn't, because I knew that being in the presence of such amazing, fun, wonderful women would help me feel better. It worked. Though I'm back home and still unable to breathe, the smiles and laughs and general positive energy from tonight did wonders for my mood. I may not have a voice tomorrow from all the talking and laughing tonight, but I'm definitely in much better spirits now than I would have been if I had stayed home, that's for sure.

Quote of the night: "We moved all my furniture into our room and she helped. I must have been with her for 5 hours before I realized she was missing an arm!"

Stick Me, Baby, One More Time

I've been entirely delinquent in my posting due to a paper that has been due. I feel like if I'm going to be writing, I need to be focusing my efforts on that paper (you know, for school - and a grade), and not updating you on my life. This has been a great source of frustration for me, however, because I actually watched Survivor last week IN REAL TIME and WITH A FRIEND and I haven't yet blogged about it. It's coming. I swear.

Also, just wanna give a shout-out to my girl Britney, for finally taking the plunge (again... and again... and again) and entering rehab. They say 3rd time's a charm, so with any luck, we'll all have a lot less Spears drama in our lives in the coming months and years ahead (and her kids will have a mom who isn't insane... we can hope, anyway).

Anyway, my post title isn't really about Britney. It's about the ordeal I just went through. You see, I had an appointment today with a woman who was coming to my house to get urine and blood samples (go figure, that's actually a real job). Anyway, I was told not to eat or drink for 4 hours before the appointment, and being the good rule-follower that I am, I didn't.

She shows up and sets up and asks if I've ever had trouble giving blood before.

"No, not yet!" I say cheerfully.

Why did I have to say that?

Because she proceeds to attempt to take blood not one, not two, but THREE times - one of them in my hand - all of them unsuccessful.

I can't wait to see the bruises as they develop, as I am already in pain when I try to bend my arm or wiggle my fingers (and yes, hand and arm are two separate sides of the body - she was an equal opportunity pain-inflicter).

I am SO grumpy, and still have this damn paper to write, so I will sign off for now, and just say that I can't wait to update you all on more fun, happy, and exciting things like Survivor and how cool dueling piano bars are and the like.
