Left at the Altar

An appropriate comparison, given that I spent last weekend at a wedding, only to return and find I (along with all other New England fans) had been left at the altar. Thank you, Sports Guy.

The "Left at the Altar Loss," when you're waiting for months and months for the season to start (like planning a wedding), then you have your fantasy drafts (the bachelor party), then you have the rehearsal dinner the night before (making your starting fantasy lineups, making your bets, figuring out which games you'll watch Sunday), then you go to the church for the actual wedding (getting in front of the TV for the 1 p.m. ET games)... and as you're standing on the altar, you find out your bride either changed her mind or got run over by the limo driver. That was me and every other Patriots fan Sunday -- we had our tuxedos on, we were ready to go, and suddenly we were sitting in a waiting room in a hot tuxedo waiting for medical updates on our comatose fiancee and halfheartedly trying to talk ourselves into one of the bridesmaids.

How to Forget

Know what can make you feel better after watching your team suffer a heartbreaking, crushing, painful defeat?

Nothing.

But do you want to know what can make you forget that heartbreaking, crushing, painful defeat temporarily?

Wii.

Oh, blessed and wonderful Wii, I thank you for being an outlet for all of my post-game emotions and energy this evening.

Go Bears!

Not like I need a reason to root against the Colts this weekend, but apparently Indy coach Tony Dungy is being honored at a dinner event by none other than the Indiana Family Institute, the state's most prominant anti-gay-rights group.

And not only that, but the damn invitations include a photo of him dressed entirely in Colts gear. Now I don't know what stance the Colts or the NFL take on gay rights, but the invitation certainly implies to someone like me who doesn't know such things that the Colts and the NFL support the IFI's negative stance on gay rights, doesn't it?

I'd post the invite here, but it makes me feel icky just to look at it (Ick - anti-gay agenda! Ick - the Colts!), so instead I'll let you click on the links above for the invite photo and other info about this ridiculousness (and though you are all free to Google the Indiana Family Institute, they'll never get a link from me).
